The Polyurethane Association promotes sustainable development throughout the entire industrial chain
On July 2nd, the Sustainable Development Working Group of the China Polyurethane Industry Association organized and held the kick-off meeting for the sustainable development of the entire industrial chain of China's polyurethane industry, marking a new stage in the sustainable development work of the China Polyurethane Industry Association. The scope covers the entire life cycle from raw material sources, factory manufacturing to product application and recycling.
The participating enterprises engaged in a lively discussion on topics such as the regulation and policy tracking of sustainable development, the unification of carbon footprint calculation methods, the formulation of industry basic data, industry white papers, the improvement of certification systems, the expansion of the application scope of sustainable development products, and consumer education. Twelve representatives from polyurethane enterprises shared their practical cases in sustainable development, covering multiple fields such as low-carbon comprehensive utilization technologies, resource recycling, application of bio-based materials, sustainable development concepts and actions of enterprises, and circular economy.

The meeting proposed that the Secretariat of the Sustainable Development Working Group of the China Polyurethane Industry Association take the lead in integrating outstanding practice cases of polyurethane upstream and downstream enterprises throughout their entire life cycle. By the end of September this year, the writing of the best practices for sustainable development in the polyurethane industry for 2024 should be completed and publicized and promoted to enhance the industry's image and competitiveness, and promote innovation and technological progress. Guide and promote the healthy and sustainable development of the entire polyurethane industry, and gradually form the annual report on sustainable development of the Polyurethane Association thereafter.
The Chinese polyurethane industry has taken solid steps in sustainable development, from initial attempts to the current comprehensive promotion, with the industry's participation and awareness constantly increasing. In December 2020, the China Polyurethane Industry Association established a sustainable Development Working group and carried out relevant work around the isocyanate industry. The council held this year proposed that on the basis of the previous work, the sustainable development work should be extended to the entire industrial chain of the polyurethane industry.

In the future, the Sustainable Development Working Group of the Polyurethane Association will, with the joint participation of the upstream and downstream of the industry's industrial chain, focus on green energy, alternative raw materials, advanced manufacturing, safety and environmental protection technologies, green logistics, product innovation applications, and the recycling of polyurethane, and pay attention to topics such as green, low-carbon, environmental protection, recycling, and ESG, to promote the sustainable development of the entire industry. To contribute more industry wisdom and strength to achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) and China's "dual carbon" goals.
