The construction of the 800,000-ton olefin project of Rongxin Chemical of Shandong Energy Group has started
On July 14th, the 800,000-ton olefin project of Rongxin Chemical, invested and constructed by Shandong Energy Group, officially broke ground in Dalate Economic Development Zone, Ordos City. This is an important measure taken by Inner Mongolia and Shandong provinces and autonomous regions to jointly build a modern coal chemical industry cluster and extend the industrial chain of "methanol - olefins - high-end new materials".
This project is located in the Dalate Economic Development Zone, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, covering an area of 1,887 mu. It mainly involves the construction of an 800,000-ton/year methanol-to-olefins (MTO) plant, a 400,000-ton/year polyethylene plant, a 400,000-ton/year polypropylene plant, a 15,000-ton/year 1-butene plant, and the supporting public auxiliary facilities. The project will use methanol as raw material and adopt MTO technology to generate polymer-grade ethylene and polymer-grade propylene monomers. Then, through polymerization, high-density polyethylene and high-performance polypropylene products will be produced. Meanwhile, by-products such as 1-butene, isobutane, C₅+, and MTBE will be generated. It is expected to be completed and put into operation during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period.
Inner Mongolia Rongxin Chemical Co., Ltd. is a coal conversion enterprise under Shandong Energy Group. It was established in Dalate Economic Development Zone, Ordos City in 2009. Up to now, it has completed an investment of 13 billion yuan and put into operation the first phase of the 900,000-ton/year coal-to-methanol project and the second phase of the 400,000-ton/year coal-to-ethylene glycol project. Since the project was put into operation in 2014, it has produced a total of 14 million tons of chemical products such as methanol and ethylene glycol, achieving sales revenue of 26 billion yuan and paying 3.76 billion yuan in taxes and fees.
Relying on the multi-nozzle oppose water-coal slurry gasification technology with independent intellectual property rights and world-leading level of Shandong Energy Group, the first phase project of Rongxin Chemical has built a water-coal slurry gasifier with a daily coal processing capacity of 3,000 tons per furnace. During the "12th Five-Year Plan" period, it undertook two national "863 Projects". Won the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2016 and the First Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation in 2017. The second-phase project, which is currently the world's largest single-furnace daily coal processing capacity 4,000-ton water-coal slurry gasifier, was included in the national Major science and technology Project in 2017.
In the future, Rongxin Chemical will actively respond to the new situation and requirements of the "dual carbon" goals. Relying on the super-large water-coal slurry gasification platform, it will continuously increase the production capacity of chemical products, promote the extension and upgrading of the "methanol - olefins - high-end new materials" industrial chain, transform regional resource advantages into industrial and economic advantages, and promote the high-end, diversified and low-carbon development of the coal chemical industry. Form large-scale industrial clusters and strive to build a leading domestic demonstration base for coal-based chemical new materials and an industrial base for clean and efficient energy utilization.
