New approaches and technologies for achieving a "new low" in the separation of ferrous ions and residual titanium, as well as for the full recovery and recycling of waste acid from titanium dioxide production.
Xiao Lijing, the chief engineer of the R&D center of Nantong Sansheng Graphite Co., LTD., pointed out in her report titled "Reducing Titanium Dioxide Waste Emissions and Establishing a Carbon Factor Footprint Management System" that the company has been dedicated to the concentration, recovery and resource recycling of titanium dioxide waste acid for 24 years, and has established over 80 sets of facilities for titanium dioxide enterprises in China. In the past two years, in collaboration with Panzhihua Haifengxin Chemical Co., LTD., we have jointly developed an energy-saving continuous freezing crystallization technology for titanium dioxide waste acid. Coupled with a specially designed tail gas Ventur-tower pre-concentrated acid technology and the fourth-generation high-efficiency waste acid evaporation concentration technology, the three technologies have been highly integrated to successfully develop a complete comprehensive slag reduction process package for titanium dioxide production, which has been industrialized at Haifengxin. This technical process first freezes the waste acid from titanium dioxide to precipitate ferrous sulfate heptahydrate crystals. Then, it uses the residual heat of the tail gas from the rotary kiln calcination of titanium dioxide to pre-concentrate the crystallization mother liquor to an acid concentration of approximately 36%. Finally, through a high-efficiency evaporation concentration device, the acid concentration is increased to a finished acid with a target acid concentration of approximately 70%. Among them, ferrous sulfate heptahydrate can be resold, and the finished acid can be directly returned to the ilmenite acid hydrolysis process for recycling.
Xiao Lijing introduced that the technical and economic indicators obtained by this technology, calculated in units of tons of titanium dioxide, can yield 1.2 tons of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate /t TiO2, 1.2 tons of sulfuric acid /t TiO2, reduce 6.6 tons of titanium gypsum residue /t TiO2, and generate a direct economic benefit of 602 yuan /t TiO2. CO2 reduction: 0.6417t/t TiO2. According to the annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of titanium dioxide of Haifengxin, the annual reduction of CO2 emissions is 64,170 tons, ultimately achieving dual benefits of economy and environmental protection, which is in line with the overall industrial strategic goal of the country to promote energy conservation and carbon reduction and develop new quality productive forces.
Jin Junzhe, the chairman of Nantong Ganhan Environmental Engineering Co., LTD., introduced that the "Low-temperature Plasma Deep Treatment Technology for Titanium Dioxide Production Tail Gas" developed by the company has passed the review of authoritative industry experts. It has been recognized as an innovative technological achievement in the production of titanium dioxide by the sulfuric acid process and is at the leading level in China. The essence of this technology for "deodorization, de-whitening and dust removal" of flue gas is to utilize the technical principle of low-temperature plasma based on corona discharge. Through simultaneous processes such as charging for dust suppression, ionization and oxidation, it adsorbs and decomposes pollutants such as particulate matter, acid mist and odors in the exhaust gas, generating stable substances and water that do not produce odors. The wastewater is collected by the system and then sent to the factory's sewage treatment system for centralized treatment and discharge. The exhaust gas is discharged through the chimney without any odor or smoke, meeting the standards.
At present, this technology has been implemented and put into operation in the deep purification of tail gas in factories such as Qianjiang Fangyuan Titanium Dioxide Co., LTD., Ningbo Xinfu Titanium Dioxide Co., LTD., and the Jiaozuo base of Longi Group Co., LTD. Third-party testing data show that the import volume of sulfur dioxide is 97.3mg/m³, the export volume is less than 3mg/m³, and the particulate matter The output of indicators such as acid mist is all less than 5mg/h, especially hydrogen sulfide, which is almost 100% removed. The removal rate of odor concentration reaches over 85% to 90%. The phenomenon of acid hydrolysis tail gas disturbing the residents has been completely solved. All the indicators after being treated by the complete purification process are superior to the national standard discharge indicators. From the perspective of operation effect, it can achieve "long-term stable and compliant operation". With the continuous implementation of subsequent projects, this technology will lay a more solid foundation for the high-quality and green development of the industry.
Ding Hongwei, the chief project R&D director and chief engineer of Jiangsu Yixing Non-metallic Chemical Machinery Co., LTD., shared at the meeting the double-jet ceramic jet mill developed by the company, which has complete independent intellectual property rights. Ding Hongwei introduced that in the post-treatment process of titanium dioxide production, there is a key position of air jet grinding and coating, which must use high-temperature resistant and wear-resistant air jet grinding machines. More than ten years ago, large-scale high-temperature resistant and wear-resistant double-jet ceramic air jet grinding machines were widely used abroad, eliminating the multi-nozzle flat air jet grinding machines that were unstable in operation and quality in this position. The large-scale high-temperature resistant double-jet ceramic jet mill also represents the latest development trend of jet mills in the international market. Due to its high manufacturing difficulty, up to now, the domestic titanium dioxide industry still mainly uses multi-nozzle flat jet mills. This is a reluctant choice and has also become one of the pain points in equipment selection in the titanium dioxide industry.

The steam direct freezing vacuum crystallization technology, jointly developed by Zhu Shuangchun, a senior expert in the titanium dioxide industry, Zhang Yidu, the former general manager of Fumin Longteng Titanium Industry, and Zhejiang Xinlongda Vacuum Equipment Co., LTD., starts from the theory of industrial crystallization and combines the characteristics of ferrous sulfate crystallization. It has revolutionized the vacuum crystallization methods such as pumping and stirring in the introduced technology. The original steam jet and propeller mechanical stirring were replaced. The secondary steam evaporated was directly cooled and liquefied by using chilled water to achieve the effect of adiabatic evaporation cooling. Zhang Yidu shared at the meeting.
This technology was successfully implemented at Fumin Longteng Titanium Industry last September and has been operating stably since then. This technology performs extremely well. Firstly, the steam consumption of each ton of titanium dioxide product is reduced by more than one ton compared with the introduced technology. Second, the requirements for circulating water are relatively low. Whether it is hard water or soft water, the water quality meets the usage requirements and will not produce scale, which would deteriorate the usability. Especially for factories in high-temperature areas during summer, it can prevent the impact of the increase in circulating water temperature caused by the humid and hot environment in summer on production and quality. Thirdly, the three-dimensional structure of the obtained ferrous sulfate heptahydrate crystal particles is excellent, making a significant contribution to the washing effect of the titanium solution. The average residual titanium content of ferrous sulfate is less than 0.18%. Fourth, as the pusher mechanical stirring is no longer adopted, the phenomenon of ferrous plate formation on the mold wall has been basically eliminated. The cleaning cycle exceeds three months, injecting new vitality into the healthy development of the industry.
