On March 20th, 2025, the 7th National Petrochemical Digital Tank Farm Forum (Exchange Conference) opened in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province. The forum, with the theme of "Digitalization Leading the New Future of Petrochemical Storage and Transportation Tank Farms", brought together experts and practitioners from multiple fields including oil and gas, oil refining, and chemical engineering to jointly discuss issues related to the future development of tank farms, digitalization progress, engineering design, regulatory systems, and safety and environmental protection management.

At the opening ceremony, Zhang Jianli, the secretary-general of the Petrochemical Application Professional Committee of the Chinese Association of Automation, pointed out that the petrochemical industry is a lifeline of the national economy, and the level of intelligence in its storage and transportation tank farms is related to the safety and efficiency of the entire industrial chain. Driven by technologies such as digital twins and industrial Internet, digital transformation has become the inevitable path for upgrading tank farms. This forum focuses on three major directions: building a full-process digital management system, deepening the integration of intelligent perception and automation technologies, and innovating the collaborative mechanism for safety and environmental protection. It has set up cutting-edge sub-forums such as intelligent dispatching, VOCs treatment, and anti-corrosion technology, showcasing the latest technologies and solutions.

Jin Yong, the president of the Warehousing Branch of the China Chemical Distribution Association, introduced a series of measures taken by the association in the warehousing industry, including holding the 9th High-level Forum on Petrochemical Warehousing and the Safety Offensive Training Camp. Jin Yong stated that the warehousing industry should leverage advanced digital technology means to help enterprises enhance their competitiveness, and at the same time seize the opportunities of green supply chains to assist enterprises in achieving the goals of cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and safety enhancement.

Yu Shiheng, vice chairman of the Process Industry Branch of the China Association for the Application of Mechatronics Technology, emphasized that China's petrochemical enterprises are currently in a critical period of equipment renewal and upgrading. It is of vital importance to utilize new technologies to assist petrochemical enterprises in achieving automation and intelligence and enhancing the intrinsic safety of storage and transportation. We look forward to this conference bringing more new technologies, new ideas, new viewpoints and new products, and conducting in-depth cooperation and exchanges to provide excellent solutions for petrochemical enterprises.

Zhou Guojie, the deputy general manager of Hengtong Logistics Co., LTD., said that the digital transformation of liquid chemical terminals and storage tank farms has moved from the application of single-point technologies to the stage of system integration, but core issues such as data fragmentation, lack of standards, and security risks need to be addressed. In the future, it is still necessary to take digital twins and AI as the core to promote the intelligence of the entire chain. At the same time, through the coordination of policies and ecosystems, the threshold for transformation should be lowered to achieve high-quality development that is safe, efficient and green.

With the advent of the "involution" era, users need to make further improvements in terms of benefits, efficiency, safety and reliability. According to Zhang Bo, the tank farm and port industry manager of Emerson Process Control, the liquid storage area management software developed by Emerson realizes the entire storage and transportation process management from contract to settlement. It is one of the few solutions in the liquid storage area market that includes contract management and automatic accumulation, breaking information silos for enterprises, making inventory management more convenient, flexible and integrating faster.

This forum is jointly organized by the Petrochemical Application Professional Committee of the Chinese Association of Automation, the Storage Branch of the China Chemical Distribution Association, the Fire and Explosion Prevention Professional Committee of the China Occupational Safety and Health Association, Jiangsu Bafang Safety Equipment Co., LTD., and Jingyan Exhibition (Beijing) Co., LTD. The event is co-organized by the Process Industry Branch of China Association for the Application of Mechatronics Technology, Jiangsu Deda Petrochemical Technology Co., LTD., Beijing Jingyan Media Co., LTD., China Standardization Magazine and other units. During the conference, "one plenary session", "eight specialized meetings", "one exhibition and display", "three selection and release sessions", "one project matching session", and "two enterprise visits and investigations" were held. A total of 54 reports were arranged, covering aspects such as tank farm automation, safety management technology, VOCs treatment technology, and storage tank inspection and maintenance. It attracted over 600 representatives to attend and more than 30 enterprises to participate in the exhibition. During the conference, an on-site visit to Jiangsu Bafang Safety Equipment Co., Ltd. was held concurrently.
