Recently, the first phase of the 500,000-ton/year DMC project of the Shaanxi Coal Industry Group Yulin Chemical Coal Quality Utilization Chemical New Materials Demonstration Project, which was contracted by Donghua Engineering Technology Co., LTD., was successfully handed over. This is currently the largest battery electrolyte solvent project in China and also the first large-scale layout of high-purity dimethyl carbonate (DMC) in Shaanxi Province.

This project is located in Qingshui Industrial Park, Yushen Industrial Zone, Yulin, Shaanxi Province. With a total investment of approximately 4.765 billion yuan, it will be constructed in two phases. The first phase will have an annual DMC capacity of 100,000 tons, and the second phase will have an annual DMC capacity of 400,000 tons. High-purity DMC products are mainly used as solvents for lithium battery electrolytes. This project introduced the advanced Japanese process technology - the methanol gas-phase oxidation carbonylation method. Using carbon monoxide, oxygen and methanol as raw materials, DMC was produced in one step through a reaction, achieving the goal of converting coal into high-value-added products on the spot. Its reaction is mild, safe and reliable, the technology is mature and it has few by-products.

After the completion of this project, it will drive the development of the new energy industry in Yulin, form a coordinated and interactive industrial chain with other chemical enterprises in Yulin, and continuously promote the extension of the industrial chain downstream.

Wang Huimin, the Party Secretary and Chairman of Shaanxi Coal Industry Group Yulin Chemical Co., LTD., stated that this project is not only an important layout for Yulin Chemical to enter the new energy industry, but also a powerful support for building a comprehensive platform for external cooperation, and a successful exploration of deepening industrial cooperation between China and foreign countries.

According to Li Lixin, the Party Secretary and Chairman of Donghua Science and Technology, the project department of Donghua Science and Technology and all participating construction units overcame numerous difficulties and achieved the high-quality handover of the entire project in just 13 months, 62 days ahead of the original plan. He demanded that the project department spare no effort to strive for the goal of material feeding and trial operation, and stated that Donghua Science and Technology will join hands with all units in the subsequent cooperation to help promote the high-end, diversified and low-carbon development of the coal chemical industry.

Regarding the next steps of work, Wang Huimin emphasized that efforts should be made to further enhance safety control, implement the concept of "comprehensive safety", improve and perfect the responsibility system for production safety involving all staff, ensure that responsibilities are properly assigned, risks are effectively controlled, and hidden dangers are rectified, and resolutely prevent any management loopholes or blind spots in responsibility. We must closely monitor each key link in the final stage of the project and the trial run of materials, break down the target tasks layer by layer, and tighten and solidify the management responsibilities to ensure that all the node plans are strictly implemented and completed on schedule. We should make further arrangements for the material feeding and test run, fully draw on experience, scientifically formulate the test run plan, and focus on and implement key tasks to ensure the successful one-time material feeding of the first phase project and the production of qualified products.
