On August 5th, the 2024 National Fluorine Resources Green Development Innovation Conference, jointly organized by the China Fluorosilicone Organic Materials Industry Association and the People's Government of Baotou City, was held in Baotou. Representatives from local governments, industry associations, research institutes and enterprises freely expressed their opinions and offered suggestions for Baotou City to achieve the goal of a "hundred-billion-yuan fluorine chemical industry cluster".

Cao Xianjun, vice chairman and secretary-general of the China Fluorosilicone Organic Materials Industry Association, said that China is rich in various associated fluorite resources. The Baotou Baiyunebo Mine alone contains 130 million tons of fluorite reserves, making it the world's largest associated fluorite mine. The completion of the fluorite resource comprehensive utilization project jointly carried out by Baotou Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. and Jinshi Resources Group Co., Ltd. has solved the long-standing problem of fluorite associated ore resource utilization, broken through the technical bottleneck of producing hydrofluoric acid from medium and low-grade fluorite powder, laid the foundation for large-scale industrial production, and also provided unlimited possibilities for Baotou to build a fluorine chemical industry cluster worth hundreds of billions of yuan.

Baotou has fluorite resources that account for about half of the national total. It enjoys unique advantages in the green development and utilization of fluorine resources and the innovative development of the fluorine chemical industry. Academician Lu Jian of the Chinese Academy of Engineering stated that Baotou has currently planned a complete industrial chain covering fluorite, hydrofluoric acid, fluorine-containing refrigerants, and fluorine-containing new materials, and will become an important national fluorine chemical production base and innovation highland.

Zhang Rui, the deputy secretary of the Baotou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the mayor of Baotou, also stated that based on its advantages such as fluorite resource endowment, the concentration of leading enterprises, and the guarantee of green power supply, Baotou is aiming to build the most important modern fluorine materials industrial base in northern China, strengthening policy support, and making every effort to build a 100-billion-yuan industrial cluster.

According to Wang Jinhua, the chairman of Jinshi Resources Group Co., LTD., Baotou Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. and Jinshi Resources are jointly committed to building a basic industrial sector of "fluorspar - fluorine chemical industry". They have achieved an annual production capacity of about 800,000 tons of fluorspar powder, 300,000 tons of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, and 90,000 tons of aluminum fluoride, laying a supply foundation for Baotou City to build a fluorine material industrial cluster worth 100 billion yuan. At the meeting, the Baotou Fluorine Materials Industry Technology Research and Development Center was established and an unveiling ceremony was held. The center will aim at the cutting-edge of industrial development, integrate and coordinate resources from multiple parties including government, industry, academia, research and application to conduct strategic research, technological breakthroughs, product development and demonstration applications, and promote technological innovation and transformation of achievements in fluorine materials.
