The new chemical materials industry is working together to break through the supply bottleneck
On May 31st, the 2024 Second China Chemical New Materials (Key Monomers) Development Conference, themed "Strive for Innovation and Leap for Quality", was held in Guannan County, Lianyungang City. Industry experts say that to solve the "bottleneck" problems of new chemical materials and key monomers, it is necessary to strengthen technological innovation, carry out joint technological research and development, and strive to break through the supply bottleneck.

The picture shows that during the conference, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation and the People's Government of Guannan County signed a strategic cooperation agreement.
Zhao Jungui, vice president and secretary-general of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, pointed out that new chemical materials are an important direction for the deep transformation and industrial upgrading of the petrochemical industry, closely related to the development of high-end manufacturing, and are typical representatives of new quality productivity. However, the variety and performance of new chemical materials in our country still cannot fully meet the demands of the high-end market. The development of key monomer technologies for some new chemical materials lags behind, which seriously restricts the development of the industry.
"Solving the 'bottleneck' problems of new chemical materials and key monomers hinges on technological innovation." " Zhao Jungui emphasized that it is necessary to closely focus on the backward technology of key monomers that restrict the production of new chemical materials, concentrate various elements and resources along the innovation chain of industry-university-research cooperation, strengthen technological research and development, strive to break through the supply bottleneck of key monomers, improve the quality and level of supply from the raw material end, and meet the needs of the preparation of high-performance new chemical materials.
Yang Songfeng, deputy director of the Petrochemical Division of the Industry Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, pointed out that at present, China lacks the ability to lead innovation in the development of new materials, especially in the research and application of advanced and high-end materials, there is still a certain gap compared with the international advanced level. In this regard, he proposed to make efforts in the layout of major projects, the research and development of key technologies and equipment, the transformation and application of development models, the rational allocation of factor resources, talent cultivation, and the empowerment of big data, to promote the independent and innovative development of new chemical materials.
Zhang Xing, deputy director of the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Jiangsu Province, said that although there are many chemical new material enterprises in Jiangsu Province, their research and development and innovation capabilities are not strong, and there is still a gap compared with the international advanced level. Chemical new materials are an industry with a relatively high degree of dependence on foreign imports. In the future, Jiangsu Province will prioritize chemical new materials as the top priority for industrial innovation and development.
Academician Ma Dawei of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xu Jian, a member of the National New Materials Advisory Committee and a chair professor at Shenzhen University, and many other experts, scholars and industry leaders respectively delivered keynote speeches on the research and development progress of key monomers in chemical new materials and the development situation of the industry.
This conference is jointly hosted by the Chemical New Materials Specialized Committee of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, the Jiangsu Chemical Industry Association, the Development and Reform Commission of Lianyungang City, the Industry and Information Technology Bureau of Lianyungang City, the Committee of the Communist Party of China of Guannan County, and the People's Government of Guannan County.
