The 2024 China Hydrogen Energy Industry Conference was held in Foshan City, Guangdong Province from October 18th to 19th. The conference offered suggestions and strategies for the in-depth implementation of various supporting policies of the "Medium and Long-Term Plan for the Development of the Hydrogen Energy Industry (2021-2035)", and discussed hydrogen energy technology, infrastructure construction, international cooperation, and the global green hydrogen standard initiative, jointly exploring the broad prospects of hydrogen energy.

It is understood that China's hydrogen energy industry is currently in a critical period of transitioning from demonstration applications to market promotion. With the significant enhancement of enterprises' independent research and development capabilities and the implementation of diversified application scenarios for hydrogen energy, the production of green hydrogen is moving towards large-scale development, and the cost is expected to further decrease.

As of the end of June this year, the annual production capacity of domestic renewable energy hydrogen production projects that have been built and put into operation has exceeded 100,000 tons, and the number of hydrogen refueling stations that have been built and put into operation has exceeded 500. In the first half of the year, the number of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles promoted nationwide exceeded 35 million, and the cumulative number of vehicles in use reached 21,000.

Zhang Xiaoqiang, former vice minister of the National Development and Reform Commission and a specially invited expert of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, pointed out that it is necessary to adhere to scientific and technological innovation leading industrial innovation and continuously break through key core technologies to enhance the competitiveness of the hydrogen energy industry. It is necessary to strengthen financial support for hydrogen energy technology and industrial innovation, and provide diversified financial service guarantees for the development of the hydrogen energy industry. We should also continue to increase the intensity of opening up and cooperation to promote the progress of hydrogen energy technology and its larger-scale application and promotion.

Ruan Gaofeng, a second-level inspector of the Innovation and High-tech Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, said that the National Development and Reform Commission will work with relevant departments to actively promote the development of the hydrogen energy industry and focus on breaking through key core technologies in the "production, storage, transportation and application" of hydrogen energy. Make efforts to reduce the application cost of hydrogen energy and promote the coordinated development of the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain. Make efforts to improve the policy and institutional system to guide the industry to develop in a standardized, orderly and pragmatic manner. It has been accelerating industrial layout around green hydrogen refining and chemical processing and hydrogen energy transportation, and vigorously promoting the research and application of technologies throughout the hydrogen energy industry chain. Through project guidance, technological innovation and infrastructure construction, it has continuously improved the research and manufacturing level of key hydrogen energy equipment in China.

The academician report meeting, centered on the theme of "Innovation-driven High-Quality Development of Hydrogen Energy", provided an outlook on the core technology breakthroughs and industrial innovation trends of hydrogen energy from the perspective of scientific and technological innovation. The conference also specially set up a discussion session on international cooperation in hydrogen energy under the Belt and Road Initiative, focusing on international cooperation in hydrogen energy during the global green transformation, and jointly exploring new paths for global energy transition.
