Eighteen national standards for greenhouse gas emission accounting will come into effect from April
The State Administration for Market Regulation announced on March 31 that 18 national standards for the accounting of enterprise greenhouse gas emissions will be officially implemented starting from April 1. This batch of standards covers multiple important industries of the national economy, including foundry, non-ferrous metals, chemicals, building materials, mining, machinery, transportation, agriculture, electrical and electronic engineering, food, and waste disposal, etc.
This batch of national standards focuses on addressing the previous issues of "unclear boundaries and difficulty in mutual recognition" in enterprise carbon emission accounting. They put forward unified requirements for "what to do and how to calculate", clearly defining rules such as the accounting boundaries of various industries, identification of emission sources, collection of activity data, and selection of emission factors, thus establishing a standardized path for enterprises to accurately calculate and report carbon emissions. By calculating the emissions of the process flow, enterprises can identify high-carbon links, implement targeted energy-saving and carbon-reduction measures, guide technological innovation, promote the application of green and low-carbon technologies, and achieve green and low-carbon transformation and development.
The compilation of this series of standards is in accordance with the requirements of GB/T 32150 "General Rules for the Accounting and Reporting of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Industrial Enterprises", and follows the principle consistent with ISO 14064-1 "Accounting and Reporting Requirements for Greenhouse Gas Emissions and clearings at the Organizational Level", which will provide technical support for enterprises to deal with international carbon trade barriers.
Up to now, China has issued a total of 46 national standards for enterprise carbon emission accounting and reporting, covering key industries such as power generation enterprises, power grid enterprises, steel production enterprises, mining enterprises, electronic equipment manufacturing enterprises, and land transportation enterprises, basically achieving full coverage of key industries.
