The industry "diagnoses" the treatment of nitrogen non-point source pollution in northern China
How to improve the regulatory mechanism and loss control mechanism to effectively solve the problem of nitrogen non-point source pollution? At the 2024 annual summary meeting on "The Occurrence Process and Regulation Mechanism of Nitrogen Non-point Source Pollution in Northern Intensive Agricultural Areas" held in Xinxiang, Henan Province from March 15th to 16th, industry experts, research teams from key universities, and enterprise representatives gathered their wisdom and offered suggestions on the key issue of nitrogen non-point source pollution in northern intensive agricultural areas. Experts have all expressed that they will strengthen their sense of responsibility and commitment, work together to overcome difficulties, innovate and break through, accelerate the implementation of achievements, ensure the high-quality completion of projects, and hand in a satisfactory answer sheet to the country.

The project "The Occurrence Process and Regulation Mechanism of Nitrogen Non-point Source Pollution in Intensive Agricultural Areas in Northern China" is a key national research and development program project jointly carried out by the Ministry and the province. According to Jie Xiaolei, the project leader and former president of Henan Agricultural University, since the project was launched in 2021, Henan Agricultural University has organized five research teams to overcome the adverse effects of the epidemic and other factors, and has carried out fruitful research on the problem of nitrogen non-point source pollution in the intensive agricultural areas of northern China. Important breakthroughs have been made in product development, mechanism models, and technology integration. It has effectively reduced nitrogen loss and the occurrence of non-point source pollution, and has made significant progress in how to carry out source control of nitrogen non-point source pollution in production in Henan Province and even the Huang-Huai-Hai region, as well as in strengthening the control of nitrogen non-point source pollution during fertilization and crop growth.
Liu Xingxu, the chairman of Henan Xinlianxin Chemical Industry Group Co., LTD., said that the company has participated in the "14th Five-Year Plan" National Key Research and Development Program's provincial-level joint project and has led the research project on "Source Control and Technology of Agricultural Non-point Source Pollution Based on Nitrogen Efficiency and Long-Term Effect". After four years of hard work and in-depth research, the members of the research team have achieved remarkable results in the mechanisms, technologies, products and models of nitrogen-efficient and long-lasting nitrogen. In wheat cultivation, they have accomplished the double 40% emission reduction target under the premise of increasing production and improving quality. The task of reducing ammonia volatilization by 40% from corn cultivation has been basically accomplished, providing a replicable and scalable solution for the control of non-point source pollution.
While acknowledging the achievements, we must also confront the problems existing in the project implementation process, such as insufficient research focus, inadequate innovation refinement, and the need to enhance the synergy of the topics. We need to intensify efforts, make improvements as soon as possible, and achieve the expected goals. Jie Xiaolei said.
"Agricultural non-point source pollution is a major strategic issue concerning national food security and ecological civilization construction." " When discussing how to leverage advantages and avoid weaknesses in the next step, Jie Xiaolei said that with a high political stance and a rigorous scientific attitude, they should earnestly implement all tasks of the project, strengthen the refinement of achievements and innovative breakthroughs, standardize management, ensure the high-quality conclusion of the project, and contribute wisdom and strength to solving the problem of nitrogen non-point source pollution in the intensive agricultural areas of the north. In particular, it is necessary to coordinate efforts to overcome difficulties, promote the transformation and application of project achievements, and form a replicable and scalable "Non-point Source Pollution Prevention and Control Plan for Intensive Agricultural Areas in Northern China".
As a project participant, Xinlianxin should continue to leverage its advantages in fertilizer research and production, closely collaborate with research institutions, jointly explore new models for the control of agricultural non-point source pollution, accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, contribute to the green and high-quality development of agriculture, and jointly make new and greater contributions to the control of agricultural non-point source pollution. Liu Xingxu said.
In the context of the large number, diverse types and wide distribution of nitrogen sources such as fertilizers, livestock and poultry manure, and crop straw in the intensive agricultural areas of northern China, and the severe non-production loss leading to non-point source pollution problems, the National Key Research and Development Program's Ministry-provincial joint project "The Occurrence Process and Control Mechanism of Nitrogen Non-point Source Pollution in Intensive Agricultural Areas of Northern China" has emerged. It aims to ensure national food security on the basis of Achieve high-yield and high-quality crops and ensure the health of the atmospheric, soil and various water bodies.
This summary meeting was hosted by Henan Agricultural University and organized by Henan Xinlianxin Chemical Industry Group Co., LTD. Academician Zhang Jiabao of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Researcher Bai Youlu from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and many other experts provided on-site comments and guidance for each sub-project.
It is learned that Henan Agricultural University is the leading unit of the project "The Occurrence Process and Control Mechanism of Nitrogen Non-point Source Pollution in Northern Intensive Agricultural Areas". The project has set up a total of five topics. They were respectively hosted by the Institute of Farmland Irrigation, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Henan Xinlianxin Chemical Industry Group Co., LTD., the Institute of Environmental Protection Research and Monitoring of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Henan Agricultural University and Beijing Century Guoyuan Technology Co., LTD.
