 On December 30, 2024, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation Science and Technology Awards Conference was held in Beijing. A total of 188 scientific and technological achievements, 2 scientific and technological innovation teams, and a group of scientific and technological workers who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the industry were commended for being awarded the 2024 China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation Science and Technology Awards. The award-winning achievements help the industry open up new fields and new tracks, and seize the initiative in global technological competition.

Professor-level senior engineer Nie Hong from Sinopec Research Institute of Petroleum Processing Co., Ltd. and Professor Gong Jinlong from Tianjin University were awarded the 2024 Zhao Yonghao Science and Technology Innovation Award of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. Nie Hong has presided over numerous key national and major projects of Sinopec. The series of catalysts and technologies innovatively developed by her have been applied in 233 sets of industrial facilities, making significant contributions to the green and low-carbon development of China's oil refining industry. Gong Jinlong focuses on the low-carbon production of propylene and the green conversion of carbon dioxide, developing transformative chemical technologies for carbon neutrality and achieving systematic innovative results.

 

It is understood that among the 188 award-winning achievements, there are 26 technological invention awards and 162 science and technology progress awards. Among them, the technology of converting dimethyl ether to ethanol via methyl acetate, jointly developed by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Yanchang Group, won the Special prize for technological invention. The project team has developed a complete set of technologies with independent intellectual property rights, opened up a new strategic development direction for coal-to-ethanol, promoted the rapid formation of the ethanol strategic emerging industry, and provided strong technical support for the low-carbon transformation of China's energy and industrial structure as well as the realization of the "dual carbon" goals.

 

Among the 10 achievements that won the first prize for technological invention, original achievements such as pervaporation membranes, intercalated oriented carbon nanotubes, polyolefin self-reinforcing manufacturing, and the preparation and application of key materials for aqueous organic flow batteries have laid a solid technical foundation for the development of China's new materials industry.

 

The award-winning achievements have generated remarkable economic benefits and huge social benefits. The rubber air spring for high-speed rail, which won the first prize for technological progress, has achieved an additional sales revenue of 7.59 billion yuan in the past three years. The sales revenue of high-performance radial tires has exceeded 22 billion yuan in the past three years. The efficient recovery results of associated fluorine in the wet processing of phosphorus resources have added 129,100 tons of fluorine resources annually, accounting for 55.85% of the total new fluorine resources in China, which is equivalent to reducing fluorite mining by 757,100 tons per year.

 

In addition, 15 comrades including Lu Yunhu from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) were awarded the Youth Innovation Award. The Mahu All-Oil and Gas System Collaborative Exploration Innovation Team and the Interdisciplinary Innovation Team of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering of Yangtze University were awarded the Innovation Team Award. Another 14 patents won the Gold Award for industry invention patents, and 74 patents won the Excellence Award for industry invention patents.

From the achievements commended today, it can be seen that technological innovation has become the main driving force for ensuring national energy security, promoting industrial structure upgrading, and enhancing the core competitiveness of enterprises. Li Yunpeng, the Party Secretary of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, concluded. He pointed out that the petroleum and chemical industry should give full play to the fundamental supporting role of scientific and technological innovation, accelerate the development of new quality productive forces, and by 2025, the industry should focus on five aspects of scientific and technological innovation: First, strengthen original and leading scientific and technological research and development, and build a modern petrochemical industry system; Second, efforts should be made to formulate a good "15th Five-Year Plan" science and technology development guide to lead the direction of science and technology development in the industry. Third, enhance technological exchanges and promotion to improve the capacity for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. Fourth, enhance collaborative innovation and promote in-depth integration of industry, academia, research and application. The fifth is to cultivate and bring up a high-level talent pool.

 

This conference was presided over by Fu Xiangsheng and Li Bin, vice presidents of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. The conference was divided into the Zhao Yonghao Science and Technology Innovation Forum, the Chemical Engineering and New Materials Innovation Forum, and the Oil and Gas Technology Innovation Forum, with nearly 400 industry science and technology workers in attendance.
