Interpretation of the Revision of GB/T50010-2010 "Code for Design of Concrete Structures
The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development issued an announcement on May 24, 2024, regarding the partial revision of the "Code for Seismic Design of Buildings" (GB50011-2010) and the "Code for Design of Concrete Structures" (GB50010-2010). The standard names and numbers are "Code for Seismic Design of Buildings" GB/T50011-2010 and "Code for Design of Concrete Structures" GB/T50010-2010, and they will be officially implemented on August 1, 2024.

In recent years, the construction industry has shifted from a stage of rapid growth to one of high-quality development. Based on the national policies and guidelines promoting energy conservation and emission reduction as well as high-quality development of the industry, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has proposed to revise the "Standard for Design of Concrete Structures", providing technical support for further promoting the application of high-strength steel bars and high-strength and high-performance concrete in engineering. The "Code for Design of Concrete Structures" was officially released on April 24, 2024, with a total of 26 revised articles. The main revised and changed contents are as follows:
1. The minimum requirements for concrete strength grades have been revised
In response to the requirements of Article 2.0.2 of the "General Code for Concrete Structures", the "Code for Design of Concrete Structures" has simultaneously coordinated the requirements for concrete strength grades, appropriately raising the minimum strength grade requirements. It should also be noted that plain concrete bedding generally does not need to be regarded as structural components. For specific requirements, please refer to the relevant standards for foundation and base.
2. Delete the relevant regulations concerning HRB335 grade steel bars
Articles 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.2.3, 4.2.4, 4.2.5 and 4.2.6 (a total of 6 articles) of the "Code for Design of Concrete Structures" GB/T 50010 have deleted the relevant provisions on HRB335 grade steel bars. The mechanical performance indicators of HRB335 grade steel bars in the original code can still be referred to and adopted. Meanwhile, the provisions on the strength indicators of seismic reinforcing bars such as HRB400E in Articles 4.2.2, 4.2.3 and 4.2.5 of the "Code for Design of Concrete Structures" GB/T 50010 have not been perfected. The corresponding grade of steel bars without "E" can be adopted.
3. Some incorrect (uncoordinated) content and content with inaccurate textual expression have been corrected
The revision of this article mainly involves modifying some parts of the original specification that are inconsistent with the general specification, as well as some clerical errors and inaccurate textual expressions. For example, in Article 8.5.3, the M in the formula description should be modified. Here, it should refer to the design value of the bending moment of the section rather than the design value of the bearing capacity of the section, and it should also meet the crack resistance requirements of the concrete component.
4. it has been coordinated and modified with the main contents of the "General Code for Concrete Structures" GB 55008-2021
Article 9.1.2, Paragraph 2: The thickness of cast-in-place reinforced concrete slabs is uniformly raised to 80mm, with an additional 100mm for solid roof slabs, and the thickness requirements for the root of cantilever slabs are tightened.
2) Article 9.4.5: "Should" be changed to "should". The reinforcement ratio of both horizontal and vertical distributed reinforcing bars should not be less than 0.15%.
3) Article 9.5.2, Paragraph 2: The thickness regulation of the post-poured composite layer of the composite slab has been revised (from 40 to 50). Delete the regulations on concrete strength grades.
4) The regulations on the combination coefficient of prestressed action have been revised, directly citing the provisions of Article 3.1.13 of the "General Code for Engineering Structures" GB 55001-2021: when the prestressed action is unfavorable, there are two regulations for the sub-coefficients, 1.3 and 1.2 (for building structures and highway bridge and culvert structures).
5) Amend the provisions on concrete strength grades as stipulated in Paragraph 2 of Article 11.2.1.
