From August 21st to 22nd, the 24th Fine Chemicals Industry (Shaanxi) Conference and the 2024 China Fine Chemicals Top 100 Release Conference were held in Xi 'an. Experts, scholars and enterprise representatives from the fine chemicals field focused on the high-end, green and intelligent development of fine chemicals, sharing their insights and promoting the fine chemicals industry to enter a new "blue ocean" of innovative development.

In early July, the "Implementation Plan for the Innovative Development of the Fine Chemical Industry (2024-2027)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Implementation Plan") jointly released by nine departments including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology became the focus of attention for the guests attending the conference. Li Shousheng, the president of the Fourth Council of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, pointed out in his keynote speech that after nearly 40 years of continuous efforts, China's fine chemical industry has developed rapidly. The output of traditional fine chemical products such as pesticides, dyes and coatings ranks first in the world. Significant progress has also been made in fields such as electronic chemicals, catalysts and functional polymer materials. In 2023, the total output value of the fine industry reached 6 trillion yuan, an increase of 3.4% compared with the previous year. It is expected to reach 6.6 trillion yuan by 2025, with the proportion of fine chemicals exceeding 55%.

At present, the innovative development of fine chemicals in our country is entering a brand-new blue ocean field featuring high-end breakthroughs, multi-field overtaking and large-scale application improvement. However, there is still a considerable gap compared with foreign countries in terms of high-end technological innovation level, product structure and application market expansion. Li Shousheng stated that the next three years will present a major opportunity for the innovative development of China's fine chemical industry. In accordance with the five major action plans outlined in the "Implementation Plan", efforts should be focused on five key strategic areas: electronic chemicals, catalysts, pharmaceuticals, pesticides and fine chemicals, high-end chemical auxiliaries, and safe and environmentally friendly fine chemicals. We should spare no effort to explore new blue oceans and strive for new breakthroughs in the high-end market.

Song Xianzhu, the former deputy director of the Raw Materials Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, pointed out that in recent years, China's fine chemical industry has achieved remarkable results in terms of industrial scale, technological progress, enterprise cultivation and agglomeration development. Currently, it can produce over 30,000 kinds of fine chemicals. However, there are still many shortcomings, such as insufficient degree of refinement, low proportion of high-end products, structural overcapacity of products, and low digitalization level. The industrial agglomeration effect has not yet been formed. The Implementation Plan points out the direction for the fine chemical industry to become stronger and larger, and also puts forward new requirements for all sectors including industry, academia, research and application.

Zhang Liqun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the president of Xi 'an Jiaotong University, and Lu Jian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a researcher at Xi 'an Institute of Modern Chemistry, respectively delivered reports on the current situation of industries such as green rubber materials, fluorine chemicals, and fluorine-containing fine chemicals.

During the conference, the 10th NMP Industry Market Seminar, the 4th Pharmaceutical Process and Manufacturing Seminar, and the 2nd Fluorine Materials Development Seminar were also held, attracting over 200 participants from the domestic fine chemical-related fields.
