On August 2nd, the Carbon Neutrality Industry Development Innovation Conference was held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The forum, with the theme of "Discussing New Quality Productivity for 'Dual Carbon' Development", saw experts and scholars from relevant fields engage in discussions and exchanges on topics such as green and low-carbon transformation, technological innovation, and mutually beneficial cooperation, jointly planning to promote the high-quality development of China's carbon neutrality industry. At the meeting, the Carbon Neutrality Industry Development Innovation Special Committee and the Jiangsu Carbon Neutrality Industry Innovation Community were officially launched. Sinopec released the first batch of "Carbon Finance Special Loan Products".

Liu Zhenmin, China's Special Envoy for Climate Change, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Ma Yongsheng, Chairman and Party Secretary of Sinopec Group, Song Hongkun, member of the Party Group and Vice Minister of the National Energy Administration, Chen Zhichang, Mayor of Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, and Liu Kang, Director and Party Secretary of Xinhua News Agency Jiangsu Branch, attended the forum. Li Gao, a member of the Environment and Resources Protection Committee of the 14th National People's Congress and the director of the Climate Investment and Financing Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, Academicians Fei Weiyang, Xu Chunming and Yuan Yingjin of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academicians Sun Longde, Li Yang and Wang Hualin of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Zhou Jinfeng, vice chairman and secretary-general of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation, delivered keynote speeches.

Liu Zhenmin said in his speech that currently, the global industrial revolution and technological transformation characterized by green and low-carbon are accelerating, and it is necessary to seize the opportunity and speed up the green transformation. For the energy sector, although China has established the world's largest and most complete new energy industrial chain, it still faces considerable pressure for transformation. This conference provides a good platform for communication among all sectors of society. We look forward to in-depth exchanges, sharing experiences and strengthening cooperation among all of you, so as to contribute to the realization of China's dual carbon goals and the strengthening of global climate governance.

Ma Yongsheng said in his speech that in recent years, Sinopec has actively participated in the development trend of the carbon neutrality industry, striving to take the lead and set an example in the green development of the energy and chemical industry. Promoting the development of the carbon-neutral industry and achieving the "dual carbon" goals cannot be achieved without the guidance of development plans, the support of scientific and technological innovation, nor without the close cooperation and overall linkage of the entire industrial chain. In the process of promoting the high-quality development of the carbon-neutral industry, Sinopec is willing to work with all parties to take "carbon" as a medium, seek common development and create a shared future, and make greater contributions to China's realization of the "dual carbon" goals and the development of new quality productive forces.

In his speech, Song Hongkun said that in recent years, the foundation of China's energy security guarantee has been continuously consolidated, the pace of green and low-carbon transformation has been continuously accelerated, and the multi-wheel driven energy supply system has been gradually improved. As a whole, China has embarked on a new journey of high-quality development. Sinopec is a pillar of China's energy and chemical industry. It must firmly grasp the "dual carbon" goals, bravely shoulder the responsibility of building new quality productive forces, and serve to promote the high-quality development of the carbon-neutral industry in the energy sector. Eight academicians and experts discussed the high-quality development of the carbon neutrality industry. Sinopec has released its first batch of "Carbon Finance Special Loan Products". The carbon finance special loan product is an innovative practice of carbon finance supporting carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. It was jointly launched by Sinopec Finance Co., Ltd. and Sinopec Carbon Industry Technology Co., LTD. It will provide special funds to the green carbon reduction and emission control related enterprises of the group company, effectively solving the carbon finance financing needs of enterprises. Guide low-cost funds to support the transformation of green industries and key emission-controlled enterprises, and provide emission-controlled enterprises with more targeted, precise, continuous and convenient financing services to the greatest extent.

It is learned that at the meeting, the launch ceremony of the Carbon Neutrality Industry Development Innovation Special Committee and the Jiangsu Carbon Neutrality Industry Innovation Community was also held. Among them, the Jiangsu Carbon Neutrality Industry Innovation Community was jointly initiated by the first batch of 22 units. It will carry out work in six aspects: promoting the construction of a green manufacturing system, accelerating the formulation of low-carbon technology standards, conducting carbon neutrality demonstration projects, strengthening intellectual property protection, establishing a carbon neutrality industry fund, and enhancing public awareness and participation, to promote the coordinated development among industries. Form a green and low-carbon industrial ecosystem to promote the harmonious unity of high-quality economic development and ecological and environmental protection.

Sinopec is constantly accelerating its pace of green transformation and development to contribute to the realization of the "dual carbon" goals. Over the past decade, Sinopec's natural gas output has increased by 87%. It has completed and put into operation a 20,000-ton-per-year green electric-to-green hydrogen demonstration project in Kuqa, Xinjiang. In 2023, the hydrogen refueling volume at hydrogen refueling stations was approximately 3,400 tons, accounting for 40% of the national total. Its geothermal heating capacity is close to 100 million square meters, ranking first in the country. It has launched the "Ten Thousand Stations in Light" initiative and vigorously developed the charging network. The monthly charging volume ranks among the top in the country. Sinopec has been continuously intensifying its efforts in low-carbon technology research and development. It has taken the lead in establishing China's first new CCUS carbon capture model with a capacity of over one million tons. In collaboration with Shell, BASF, Baowu and other enterprises, it has launched the country's first open CCUS research project with a capacity of over ten million tons in East China. Jointly initiated and established the International Carbon Dioxide Capture, Utilization and Storage Technology Innovation Cooperation Organization with the China Chemical Society, China Huaneng, Saudi Aramco and others, the self-developed bio-jet fuel was successfully injected into the first test flight of the domestically produced large aircraft. The deepest geothermal scientific exploration well in China was drilled in Hainan. The demonstration project for the recycling and utilization of waste plastics is accelerating its construction. Sinopec is also committed to strengthening the operation and management of carbon assets. It has established a carbon full industrial chain technology company - Carbon Science Company, to enhance the operation of the carbon market and the layout of carbon asset development. It plans to build a carbon finance and carbon industry digital intelligence platform, innovatively explores the contract carbon management business model, and provides comprehensive solutions for domestic and international carbon markets. Initiate the establishment of the Energy and Chemical Industry Chain Carbon Footprint Alliance. Through industry cooperation and technological innovation, enhance the management level of carbon footprints and promote international mutual recognition of accounting methods.
