On April 28, 2025, the Second Special Polyurethane Industry Technology Development Conference was held in Hebi City, Henan Province. More than a hundred experts, scholars and entrepreneurs gathered together to exchange and discuss new technologies, new models and new business forms in the development of the polyurethane industry. Six projects with a total investment of 3.3 billion yuan, including the production of special polyurethane coatings and isocyanate derivatives, were signed on the spot simultaneously.

Wei Dongqing, a tenured professor at the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a dual-appointed professor at Peng Cheng Laboratory, said that colleagues from the upstream and downstream industries of the polyurethane industry across the country gathered together to have in-depth discussions on issues such as policies, markets, and technologies that are currently of concern to the polyurethane industry It will inject strong impetus into strengthening confidence in industrial development, enhancing the integration of industrial chain resources, and accelerating the promotion of industrial development. Hebi City has the basic resources, policy support and leading enterprises to drive the development of new materials industries including polyurethane. As a key point of Hebi City's "one laboratory and Two Cities", Qihe Laboratory will fully play its role, build a bridge between enterprises, research institutes and the government, and promote the deep integration of the industrial chain and the innovation chain. Make positive contributions to the development of the polyurethane industry and related industries in Hebi City.

Lu Guohui, the secretary-general of the China Polyurethane Industry Association, said that currently, the polyurethane industry is undergoing a profound structural adjustment. Compared with overseas polyurethane enterprises, Chinese enterprises, driven by both policy support and market demand, are accelerating their expansion pace. By enhancing the stability of the supply chain, increasing investment in technological research and development and innovation, they are continuously strengthening their core competitiveness.

Lu Guohui said that against the backdrop of the deep reconstruction of the global polyurethane industry chain, the cost and technological advantages of Chinese raw material manufacturers are encountering barriers. The "301+" tariff upgrade policy initiated by the United States on March 4th imposes an additional 20% AD valorem duty on polyurethane raw materials exported from China (including Hong Kong) to the United States on top of the existing anti-dumping/countervailing duties. The South American and South Asian markets have simultaneously strengthened trade barriers. For instance, Brazil and India have initiated anti-dumping investigations into polyether polyols from China, and India has launched an anti-dumping investigation into TDI from China. Even so, the export of Chinese polyurethane raw materials to overseas markets remains an inevitable trend. In the future, Chinese polyurethane enterprises will play a more important and active role in the global industry landscape, leading the industry to a higher level of development. This transformation is not only a test of the strategic wisdom of enterprises, but also an important guide for the future development direction of the industry.

Regarding the industrialization progress of biodegradable plastic PBAT, Li Jianjun, a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering and the director of the National Advanced Polymer Materials Industry Innovation Center, stated that five aspects of work should be done well: strengthen market supervision to ensure standardization and order; We should earnestly strengthen the implementation of the plastic ban policy and expand market demand. Stabilize the supply chain and prices to avoid cut-throat competition; Encourage investment in research and development to promote technological progress in the industry; Strengthen publicity and guidance for consumers.

Wang Renhong, the chairman of Meirui New Materials Co., LTD., said that the application of polyurethane in new energy, high-end equipment, low-carbon buildings and other fields has been continuously expanding and has become a key material support for promoting the upgrading of the manufacturing industry. Meirui New Materials will work hand in hand with its partners to build the integrated project of the polyurethane new materials industrial park into an industry benchmark.

This conference is hosted by the China Chemical Society, the China Polyurethane Industry Association and Meirui New Materials Co., LTD., organized by Meirui Technology (Henan) Co., LTD., and co-organized by the Henan Chemical Society and the Henan Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation.
