The meeting sent out a clear signal: Hydrogen energy has been designated as an important sector in the country's future industrial layout. Under the new national system, it will receive "dual-wheel drive" support for technological breakthroughs and application demonstrations.

Hydrogen energy has entered the first echelon of "technology breakthroughs"

The meeting emphasized that we should leverage the advantages of the new national system to deeply implement major national science and technology projects and systematically carry out research on original and leading technologies. Among the specific frontier fields mentioned, hydrogen energy is ranked alongside 6G, quantum technology, and biomanufacturing, becoming a key direction for the country to concentrate its efforts on breakthroughs. 

This means that the technological research and development in the hydrogen energy industry will rise from decentralized market activities to a national strategic task. Relying on national manufacturing innovation centers, pilot testing platforms and other carriers, the "key technology" issues in the entire hydrogen energy "production - storage - transportation - application" chain are expected to enter a period of concentrated research and breakthrough. 

"Scene opening" drives the maturation of technology 

Apart from technological breakthroughs, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has explicitly stated that "large-scale application demonstrations of new manufacturing technologies, new products and new scenarios should be carried out". Through the large-scale open application of scenarios, the maturation of cutting-edge technologies can be accelerated. For the hydrogen energy industry, this is undoubtedly a major positive development. 

At present, the application of hydrogen energy mostly remains at the stage of small-scale demonstration, and the technological iteration is limited by the insufficient application scenarios. The policy level promoting "scene opening" means that more real markets such as industrial carbon reduction, heavy transportation, energy storage and peak load regulation will be activated, and enterprises will have more opportunities to verify the technology and reduce costs in the "application" process, truly achieving the transition from "policy-driven" to "market-driven". 

Gradually cultivate enterprises and strengthen the "vital force" of hydrogen energy 

Enterprises are the main force in technological innovation. The meeting proposed to establish a sound gradient cultivation system for high-quality enterprises, and continuously expand the number of specialized, innovative, and small and medium-sized enterprises as well as high-tech enterprises. 

For the hydrogen energy industry, this means that leading enterprises will receive more policy resources and support, and small and medium-sized enterprises with core technologies are also expected to be included in the national development focus. At the same time, the promotion of the new development path cultivation actions in national high-tech zones may give rise to a number of hydrogen energy characteristic industrial clusters, forming a new pattern of regional collaboration and differentiated development. 

From top-level planning to scenario implementation, from technological breakthroughs to enterprise cultivation, the meeting held by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has outlined a clear development path for the hydrogen energy industry. Under the impetus of the new national system, hydrogen energy, as a key piece of the future industry puzzle, is entering an important window period for transitioning from "forward-looking planning" to "large-scale development".
