The Changqing Oilfield has applied the star rotation technology to solve the problem of increasing gas field production
The prelude to an industry transformation was recently played at the Changbei Operation Branch of Changqing Oilfield. Eight star-rotary mixed transport gas pumps distributed in four well clusters started operation simultaneously, indicating that a key step has been taken in the application of an innovative technology on the journey of reducing wellhead pressure for water drainage and gas recovery.
With the extension of production time, the pressure at the bottom of the well has decreased, the output of gas Wells has declined, and the accumulation of fluid at the bottom of the well has become severe, making continuous production impossible. In response to the current situation, the cooperation block between Changqing Oilfield and Shell has successfully introduced the intelligent skid-mounted technology of star-rotating mixed transport pumping pumps. The introduction was carried out in two phases in July 2023 and December 2023. In a certain well cluster in Yuyang District, Yulin City, the intelligent skid-mounted system of the star-rotary mixed transportation gas pump has been successively tested and applied, effectively solving the problems in the later development of the gas field and playing an important role in ensuring the stability of China's natural gas supply.
During the test period, the maximum daily gas production reached 250,000 cubic meters. The average daily gas production increased from 45,000 cubic meters (intermittent opening) before intervention to approximately 220,000 cubic meters per day. The wellhead pressure dropped from 3.3 megapascals to about 2.3 megapascals. The average daily drainage volume increased from 0.5 cubic meters to 2.6 cubic meters. The production efficiency rose from 40% to over 99%. The average daily gas consumption is approximately 3,200 cubic meters, with an average daily increase in gas production exceeding 180,000 cubic meters, and the output-to-input ratio is as high as 20:1. This device has withstood the test of temperatures ranging from -25℃ to 35℃ in extremely low-temperature environments, demonstrating extremely high stability and efficiency. During the operation of the equipment, all parameters of the star rotary gas pump remained stable, and its performance did not decline. It effectively solved the problem of liquid accumulation in gas Wells, improved the well opening rate and natural gas recovery rate.

Based on the positive assessment of the experimental application, in November 2024, the Changbei Operation Branch Company decided to adopt 8 sets of star rotary equipment for wellhead pressure reduction, drainage and gas production in four well clusters in Yuyang District, Yulin City, to ensure the successful completion of the winter supply guarantee and production increase tasks.
The successful implementation of innovative technologies has not only brought significant economic benefits to the Changbei Operation Branch of Changqing Oilfield, but also provided valuable experience for the development of gas fields in China, highlighting the important position of technological innovation in the energy industry.
