On May 28th, the 2024 National Calcium Carbonate Industry Annual Conference was held in Xuancheng, Anhui Province. This annual conference attracted over 300 participants from domestic calcium carbonate production enterprises, equipment manufacturers, and research institutions of colleges and universities. The aim was to exchange and discuss the opportunities, challenges, countermeasures and solutions for the development of the calcium carbonate industry, and to promote greater innovation and breakthroughs in new technologies, new products, new processes, new equipment and intelligent manufacturing in the industry.

Wang Xiaofeng, president of the China Inorganic Salt Industry Association, Wang Jue, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Xuancheng Municipal Committee and executive vice mayor, Huo Aimin, director of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Jingxing County and head of the Leading Group for Promoting the Transformation of Calcium Carbonate, and others attended the meeting and delivered speeches successively.

It is reported that the calcium carbonate industry has always been a pillar industry in Liqiao Town, Xuanzhou District, Xuancheng City. The proven reserves of calcium carbonate mineral resources within the territory amount to 410 million tons, including 40 million tons of light calcite and 370 million tons of heavy calcite. As early as the 1980s, Liqiao Town began to get involved in the calcium carbonate industry. The same "relying on the mountains for a living", but with different development connotations, up to now, through industrial transformation and upgrading, the local area has initially formed an industrial chain pattern of "upstream mines - midstream powder - plastic particle and color masterbatch granulation - downstream plastic pipes and plates". The industrial scale has begun to show results, and the industrial space is ready to be unleashed. Up to now, Liqiao Town has 97 calcium carbonate production enterprises, and the total output value of this industry reached 2.62 billion yuan last year.

Wang Xiaofeng delivered a speech at the meeting, introducing that in recent years, under the guidance of active market demand and the impetus of technological progress, new varieties of calcium carbonate products have been constantly emerging, application fields have been continuously expanding, the functionalization and refinement levels of products have rapidly improved, and the corresponding added value has also increased, thereby promoting the growth of the market size of China's calcium carbonate industry. With the continuous development of high-tech industries such as automobiles and aerospace in China, driven by the growth in demand for high-end coatings and new sealing materials, the domestic market demand for high-end light calcium carbonate will continue to increase. Enterprises are also actively and constantly improving production technologies and enhancing the diversification level of their products to promote the development of the industry.

Wang Xiaofeng pointed out that the calcium carbonate industry should further implement the concept of giving priority to ecological conservation and green development. From the source of the calcium carbonate industry chain, it should treat resources well, adhere to green mining, intensive utilization, optimized allocation and stepwise utilization. The production process and equipment of calcium carbonate products in the chain have been made green, intelligent and large-scale. The end of the chain should be refined, specialized, functional and serialized.

Next, the calcium carbonate industry should focus on three key tasks. The first is to achieve large-scale and intensive resource development. Second, it is necessary to improve the green mining of limestone mines. Third, it is necessary to improve the industry standard system for calcium carbonate.

Wang Xiaofeng pointed out that integrating mineral resources is an important means to solve the unreasonable layout of mine development in a concentrated manner and achieve large-scale and intensive resource development. It is also an effective way to adjust the mining structure and promote the transformation of the growth mode of the mining economy. Moreover, it is an effective mechanism to follow the new industrialization path of the calcium carbonate industry. To achieve high-value, efficient and healthy development of the calcium carbonate industry, integrating limestone mines, implementing unified management and mining, optimizing allocation, and preventing the waste of high-quality limestone resources due to the underutilization of high-quality mines will effectively promote the development of the industry.

Limestone mining enterprises should establish the concept of sustainable development, incorporate the construction of green mines throughout the entire production process, adopt advanced technical equipment, implement strict intelligent and scientific management, and achieve the goals of full and rational development and utilization of resources, environmental protection, safe production, and sustainable development of the mining economy. Build the enterprise into a modern one that faithfully fulfills its social responsibilities.

Make up for the shortcomings and optimize the standard system structure of calcium carbonate. For the shortcomings in the calcium carbonate standard system, both the Inorganic Salt Association and the Calcium Carbonate Branch should take active actions, encourage industry enterprises to participate in the formulation, and formulate and issue corresponding standards in aspects such as safety production, environmental protection, energy consumption control, product quality, production technology, technological research and development, and process innovation, so as to lead the development of the industry through standard innovation. Promote the circular integration and connection between the calcium carbonate industry and its downstream industries.

Wang Xiaofeng believes that as China's economy moves towards high-quality and healthy development, the demand for high-end calcium carbonate products in industries such as plastics, rubber, coatings, and papermaking will increase. The calcium carbonate industry will have broad prospects for development for a long time in the future. In addition, the demand for mineral resources is constantly increasing. To ensure the security of the industrial chain and supply chain of mineral resources in our country, it is necessary to establish the concept of efficient utilization of mineral resources, achieve the greatest economic and social benefits with the least resource and environmental costs, and thus realize the efficient development and utilization of mineral resources.
