On April 28, it was learned from CNOOC Tianjin Branch that as of the first quarter of this year, the cumulative oil and gas production of the Liaodong Bay Oilfield Group in the Bohai Oilfield exceeded 3.2 million tons for the first time, setting a new historical record compared with the same period last year.

The Liaodong Bay Oilfield Group is located in the northern part of the Bohai Sea. Since the first platform was put into operation in 1992, there have been 19 oil and gas fields in production. Up to now, this oilfield group has over 80 offshore platforms, 3 onshore terminals and more than 1,500 development Wells, with a daily oil and gas equivalent output of over 36,000 tons. It has continuously produced over 10 million tons of oil and gas annually for 15 years and has cumulatively produced approximately 240 million tons of oil and gas. It is a major offshore oil and gas production area in China.

The geological structure of the Liaodong Bay Oilfield Group is complex, there are many types of oil reservoirs, and the development difficulty is great. Cnooc has successively overcome a series of development technology and engineering construction challenges in this area, including the exploitation of conventional heavy oil fields at sea, the development of underground mountain fissure oil reservoirs, China's largest offshore power network, and offshore oil, gas and water treatment. It has created multiple "firsts" in China's offshore oil development field, including the first horizontal branch well in China's offshore oil fields, the first natural gas reinjection emission reduction and oil increase project, and the first comprehensive oilfield adjustment project. At present, this oilfield cluster has become the main battlefield for the development of "ice-zone oilfields", "heavy oil oilfields" and "water-driven oilfields" in China's offshore areas.

The proven geological reserves of unconventional heavy oil in the Bohai Oilfield exceed 600 million tons, among which the Liaodong Bay Oilfield Group accounts for about 30%, and the extraction value is extremely high. Cnooc researchers have carried out the development of unconventional heavy oil thermal recovery at sea by means of precise equipment research and development and meticulous technological innovation. They have for the first time proposed the integrated high-temperature injection and production technology for ultra-heavy oil at sea and the efficient development technology for the entire life cycle of multi-layer heavy oil thermal recovery. The first large-scale ultra-heavy oil thermal recovery oilfield in China's offshore area - the Luda 5-2 North Oilfield, and the first multi-layer heavy oil thermal recovery oilfield in China's offshore area - the Jinzhou 23-2 Oilfield have been fully put into production successively. In 2024, the Liaodong Bay Oilfield Group's peak daily crude oil production from heavy oil thermal recovery exceeded 2,200 tons, successfully facilitating the Bohai Oilfield's annual crude oil production from heavy oil thermal recovery to exceed 1 million tons for the first time, creating a new growth pole for China's crude oil reserve increase and production growth.

After more than 30 years of development and production, the Liaodong Bay Oilfield Group is facing considerable challenges in maintaining stable production and efficient development. Cnooc has successively developed and applied a series of new technologies, new processes and new methods, and meticulously deployed and implemented the largest secondary adjustment project at sea in China - the secondary adjustment and development project of Suizhong 36-1/ Luda 5-2 Oilfield, to help the old oilfield expand capacity and increase production.

In the future, the Liaodong Bay Oilfield Group of the Bohai Oilfield will firmly adhere to the working approach of "stabilizing old oilfields, accelerating new oilfields, and breaking through low, border and thick oilfields", guided by the goal of "two improvements and one reduction", consolidate the foundation for stable production in the Liaodong Bay, continuously enhance energy supply and guarantee capabilities, and contribute to the high-quality development of the company.
